Native XChat app available
Go to chat.x.com in Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge, or any modern browser. Works on Windows, macOS, Linux, ChromeOS, and Android.
Use the same login as your X (formerly Twitter) account. No separate XChat account needed. Two-factor authentication is supported.
On first visit, X prompts you to create a passcode. This unlocks your end-to-end encrypted chats and is stored only on your device — not on X's servers. Don't lose it: there is no recovery.
All your existing chats sync immediately. Messages sent from the iOS app appear here in real time, and vice versa. You can also create groups, share invite links, and edit/delete messages.

XChat does not have a native Android app yet. While you wait, chat.x.com works on Android Chrome. The interface is desktop-optimized, so it's not ideal on small phones, but every messaging feature works. For voice and video calls, you'll need to wait for the Android app — or borrow an iPhone.
No native desktop app. X has not released a Windows, macOS, or Linux app for XChat. The official solution is the web version at chat.x.com — it works in any modern browser.
No native Android app yet. The XChat iOS app launched April 24, 2026. Android timing has not been announced. The workaround: open chat.x.com in Chrome on your Android phone. The mobile web experience is functional but optimized for desktop screens.
No. chat.x.com runs entirely in your browser. You can also "install" it as a Progressive Web App (PWA) on Chrome, Edge, or Safari for a more app-like feel — click the install icon in your browser address bar.
Yes — when you set a passcode on first login. The passcode is the encryption key for accessing your chats. X claims messages are E2E encrypted, though independent security experts have raised concerns about the implementation. For comparison-grade security, see our XChat vs Signal page.
Yes. Both interfaces share the same backend and your X account, so messages sent on the web instantly appear in the iOS app and vice versa.
Voice and video calls are currently iOS-only. The web version supports text, file sharing, and group chats but not calls. Calls may come to web in a later update.
Functionally yes — they are synchronized. The difference is presentation: chat.x.com is a dedicated, distraction-free interface focused only on messaging, while x.com mixes DMs with the main feed.
chat.x.com is the fastest way to try XChat — no install, no waitlist, works on every device you already own.
